Trump is “welcoming” a meeting with Jackie Evancho and transgender sister after Jackie tweets: “@realDonaldTrump u gave me the honor 2 sing at your inauguration. Pls give me & my sis the honor 2 meet with u 2 talk #transgender rghts,” on Wednesday.
White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer said at the daily press briefing, “yeah, I think the president would be welcome to meet with her.”
The sisters were thrilled with the response saying, “maybe there’s a way we can create a federal law or something to protect transgender people from discrimination” Jackie said on CNN.
Her sister rejected the Trump Administration’s argument that transgender bathrooms are a state issue. “It needs to be on a federal level because if it’s not and it’s left in the states’ hands, then we are going to have this many states saying one thing, and this many states saying another,” Juliet also said on CNN.
In a divisive move, the Trump administration rolls back federal protections for transgender students today. A victory seen by opponents of the Obama administration’s guidelines who believe the federal government never should have gotten involved in the issue.
Civil rights groups denounced the withdrawal as a politically motivated attack that will endanger transgender children and sow confusion over the federal government’s role in enforcing civil rights.
“It’s just going to divide America more than it already is,” Jackie added. “We’re trying to work to piece America together again.”
On the local level, an increased number of calls to county school superintendents from concerned citizens prompted officials to release formal statements.
The New York Times obtained pieces of Trump’s tax returns and reveals he’s a fraud.
