The news is an ill omen for Chancellor Angela Merkel as she campaigns for a fourth term in office in September against a rising tight of European Union animosity.
A YouGov poll shows only seven per cent believe the EU should “keep doing what it is doing”.
The poll came after European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker set out possible future scenarios of the EU, including a “multi-speed” union, in which some countries would integrate.
Those polled like the idea of a comprehensive union of members in all political spheres – 29 per cent approved of that, while 16 per cent opted for the multi-speed union.
Yet support for reducing the scale of European integration was also strong with 21 per cent of those polled favouring reduced EU powers.
And 13 per cent said the bloc should go back to being just a single economic market.
In the YouGov survey 1,032 people were polled in Germany from March 3 to 7.
