Anders Vistisen, of the Danish People’s Party, shredded Brussels’ demands to Theresa May which were revealed on Wednesday.
Taking to Facebook, the MEP said: “Great Britain should not be punished!!! The EU Parliament has now adopted its position on Brexit… and it has become clear the EU Parliament wants a hard line against Britain.
“They do not want to negotiate a future trade deal with Britain before they have agreed to pay the [Brexit bill], the EU has demanded. [They] have given Spain a veto right in relation to the issue of Gibraltar in the new agreement.”
Mr Vistisen said the European Union was at risk of causing “irreparable damage” to itself and is members, as well as the UK, if it insisted on punishing the British people for Brexit.
“If the demands set out by the EU Parliament are implemented, it will do irreparable damage to both Britain and the rest of the EU,” he wrote.
Declaring the Danish People’s Party would stand with the Mrs May and support the wishes of the UK Government, the MEP said they would do everything possible to ensure a good trade deal was secured.
Mr Vistisen said: “That is why the Danish people’s party with its vote today declared that we’re with Great Britain. We have complied with the voting recommendation discussed with Prime Minister Theresa May and her people in Brussels.
“We can already now make it clear that the Danish people’s party will stand shoulder to should with our close friends and allies in the British Government.
“We will, now and in the future, do everything possible to make sure the British get the best possible deal, including, of course, following the recommendations coming from London regarding Brexit.”
During the Brexit debate in the European Parliament on Wednesday, Guy Verhofstadt claimed Brexit was a “catfight” within the Tories and one day the UK would return to Europe.
Mr Verhofstadt said: “I am convinced and one hundred per cent sure about one thing, that there will be a young man or woman who will try again.
“Who will lead Britain into the European family once again. And a young generation that will see Brexit for what it really is, a catfight in the conservative party that got out of hand. A lot of time a waste of energy and I think stupidity.”
Meanwhile, Michel Barnier warned the UK there are three main conditions to Brexit as he added Britain will be forced to pay to settle its accounts just a day after it was revealed the organisation is facing a black hole of more than £200billion.
Mr Barnier told a sitting of the European Parliament in Strasbourg, France, he would be looking into the “devil in the detail” in a bid to ensure a deal happens but he warned the UK that open borders is an issue for the EU.
He said: “Our shared objective is a successful agreement and that requires three conditions to be fulfilled. Firstly as has been highlighted by Jean-Claude Juncker, we need unity.
“A disunited union could actually lead to there being no agreement and it’s important that for us all to understand that. No agreement could lead to serious consequences first and foremost for the United Kingdom but also for the European Union.
“Hence let me say again the no deal scenario is not the scenario we are looking for, we are looking for success. Success not against the United Kingdom but with the United Kingdom.
“We need to speak the truth to our citizens, we need to say impasively and objectively what it means, what it means on leaving the European Union.
“Unity will be all the stronger if it is public unity, we intend to negotiate in a transparent fashion.”
